Shyamal Mukherjee, a leading Bengali artist, pursued his art education from Santiniketan completing his BFA (1987) and MFA (1989) from Rabindra Bharti University. Shyamal Mukherjee paintings in the reverse oil or acrylic painting on transparent sheets which is a very time-consuming effort. He takes inspiration from his daily life and portrays figures bordering on a caricature style. Shyamal Mukherjee's subjects are dressed in bright, almost gaudy orange, red and green attire, but their eyes are gazing and drawn, their faces almost bearing a caricature effect and their fingers podgy. His favourite medium is reverse oil or acrylic painting on transparent acrylic sheets. Baba and Bibi embody the spirit of adventure taking on newer interests, perhaps for the first time. As an artist wanting to spread cheer, he would love his work to find its happy place in every home. And it comes as a pleasant surprise that Baba and Bibi travelled all the way to Abu Dhabi too.
